Former Winton Woods star Chris Oats able to walk sister down the aisle for her wedding

Former Winton Woods High School football star Chris Oats took another big step forward as he recovers from a stroke he suffered in 2020. The linebacker standout who went on to play in college at Kentucky walked his sister down the aisle on her wedding day.

Oats' mother, Kemberly, tweeted out the video Sunday and wrote: "Here is Chris walking his big sister down to give her away and yes that is the therapist from Florida that flew in to help him I love the support"

Kemberly also tweeted out a photo of herself, Chris and his sister.

Chris responded with a tweet of his own on Monday, saying: "What I spent last 3 years working so hard for"

Chris, an all-state player who won a state championship while at Winton Woods, played two seasons at Kentucky. He recorded 27 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries as a freshman in 2018 and finished fifth on the team with 46 tackles to go along with 2.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble as a sophomore.

He was expected to start for the Wildcats in 2020 before the career-ending medical issue.

There is still a "22Oatsstrong" fundraiser going on, which has raised $193,879 of its $200,000 goal to help with expenses.

In her latest update to the fundraiser on Sept. 22, Kemberly wrote: "We want to thank you’ll for all you have done for chris we’re getting stronger and mostly his mindset is getting better so thank you for your donation and your prayers and support"
