Hot dog buns with rat bites. Insects in flour. Upstate restaurants with worst July inspections

South Carolina health inspectors found multiple violations at restaurants in the Upstate in July, rats taking bites out of hot dog buns to workers not washing hands before touching food. The state each month releases grades and inspection reports for food establishments across Upstate counties.

Here are the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings in July.

Miss B’s Hot Dogs at 4537 Hwy 29 N in Anderson

Miss B’s Hot Dogs had an inspection on July 25 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed wheat flour with live insects crawling in it in the back store room. Also observed were hot dog buns with evident rodent bite marks on them.

A black substance was seen on lettuce in the prep unit at the cook line. Potatoes in the back store room were squishy, wrinkled with juices coming out of them and had accumulated fruit flies. Multiple dented cans were seen in the back storage room.

Grease, grime and food debris was seen on multiple dishes, containers and utensils. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

A required followup inspection has not yet been held.

Arizona Steakhouse at 2952 Grandview Drive in Greenville

Arizona Steakhouse had an inspection on July 31 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed an employee handle raw fish and beef and clean dishes without washing hands or changing gloves. Also observed an employee use bare hand to clean salad leftovers off a cutting board and put them back in the salad cooler.

Several dirty food containers were seen stored as clean. A buildup of debris was seen inside the ice bin. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. A buildup of debris was seen on racks used to store clean dishes.

A required followup inspection has not yet been held.

Konnichiwa of Greenville at 101 Falls Park Drive in Greenville

Konnichiwa had an inspection on July 29 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed raw ready to eat food stored on the floor under raw chicken in the walk-in cooler. Also observed was open boxes of product not covered to prevent contamination.

Single use items were seen stored on the floor of the sushi station. Several empty 5-gallon plastic containers were seen throughout the facility with a buildup of grease, grime and accumulation of water on their tops. Grease and grime buildup was seen on the floor and walls of the kitchen.

A required followup inspection has not yet been held.

La Choza at 6245 White Horse Road in Greenville

La Choza had an inspection on July 23 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed condensation from the air conditioner dripping into the manual dishwashing sink.

An employee was seen not washing hands prior to changing gloves. An employee was seen using bare hands on the ready to eat food production line.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on July 25 and got an A grade.

Lin’s Asian Cafe at 850 E Suber Road in Greenville

Lin’s Asian Cafe had an inspection on July 31 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed organic matter buildup inside the ice machine.

Certain foods were seen not kept at proper cooling temperatures. Other foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Several food boxes and containers were seen stored on the floor of the walk-in cooler.
