Husband's walking challenge in wife's memory
A man whose wife died of cancer will walk about 100 miles (160km) to raise money for the hospice that cared for her as part of a series of challenges in her memory.
Adam Broadhead hopes to walk from his home in Wolverhampton to his wife Sandy's hometown of Birkenhead in 24 hours.
He is hoping to raise £40,000 for Compton Care and has already scaled Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), has a skydive planned and said he will attempt his latest task in early 2025.
The hospice, which helped the couple marry before Sandy died, said they wished him luck and thanked him for his efforts.
His wife was cared for at the hospice last year after a bone cancer diagnosis.
The news derailed the couple's plans to marry in Greece but staff at the centre helping them fulfil their dream of getting married.
“Compton’s commitment to Sandy’s care extended far beyond specialist clinical treatment," said Mr Broadhead, from Fordhouses, Bushbury.
"The team brought us light on our darkest days, even helping to organise our wedding day - a memory I will cherish forever."
Mr Broadhead has his skydive planned for October and is also organising a charity football match.
The 39-year-old said he wanted to do the challenges and to raise money to keep his wife's "generous, adventurous spirit alive".
The hospice launched the "In Sandy’s Memory Appeal" and its head of fundraising, Lee Newman, said it was a privilege to care for her and to support Mr Broadhead.
“We cannot thank Adam enough for his fundraising efforts and wish him lots of luck in completing each challenge," he said.
"Every penny raised will go towards providing specialist care and support to other families like Adam and Sandy’s, when they need it most."
