Jelly Roll shares the meaning behind his name in Dunkin’ ad for National Doughnut Day

Jelly Roll knows the power of a jelly doughnut.

The "Need a Favor" singer stars in a new ad that came out June 6 for Dunkin’ to promote National Doughnut Day, which takes place June 7.

“Oh, it’s National Doughnut Day tomorrow?” Jelly Roll says after opening a door he’s behind when someone knocks on it.

“Y’all called me just in time,” he continues before winking at the camera.

He then explains his personal connection to doughnuts.

“You know everybody always asks me how I got the name Jelly Roll. Believe it or not, truth is because of these little guys right here,” he says while selecting a doughnut from a box of Dunkin’ doughnuts and then taking a bite.

“Y’all know growing up, doughnuts were truly my kryptonite. My mama used to tell me all the time that I was so sweet I could open up my own Dunkin’,” he says.

The Grammy-nominated star then gets into the nitty gritty of how he enjoys eating doughnuts, saying he loves to dunk them, while advising people to do it so they don’t get too mushy. He explains some dunking strategies, first showing off one technique he named after his wife called the "Bunny Dunk."

“Bunny hop, bunny hop, bunny dunk,” he says, while motioning the doughnut taking short hops before he plows it into a cup of coffee.

Then, he reveals the “Nash Smash,” which he calls “a nod to my Nashville roots” and features him smashing the doughnut into the coffee, spilling the drink.

Jelly Roll also says he sometimes shares doughnuts with his dog before reminding people to enjoy this holiday.

“So National Doughnut Day, y’all. Grab a doughnut, enjoy the rest of your day and remember: Life’s better with a little jelly in it, baby,” he says.

Jelly Roll’s spot is part of Dunkin’s efforts to celebrate National Doughnut Day. The chain will offer customers a free classic donut of their choice with the purchase of any beverage, while supplies last.

People can also purchase limited-edition doughnut apparel at ShopDunkin.com, beginning June 7 at 12 p.m. ET, according to a Dunkin' press release.

Dunkin’ has also teamed up with Scrub Daddy to launch special Dunkin’ Scrub Daddy and Scrub Mommy sponges for cleaning.
