Kidnapping suspect killed while trying to run over deputies with his car, NC cops say

A man accused of kidnapping and robbery was fatally shot when it appeared he was going to run over deputies with his car, according to investigators in North Carolina.

The suspect was identified as Pierre Demond Ramseur, 33, of Hickory, the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Ramseur was killed around 6 p.m. Monday, July 22, as a Special Tactics and Response Team closed in to arrest him in the parking lot of a company in Conover, the sheriff’s office said. Conover is about a 40-mile drive northwest from Charlotte.

“This suspect refused to comply with instructions to exit his vehicle. The suspect then struck several law enforcement vehicles and a private vehicle in an effort to escape apprehension,” the sheriff’s office said.

“This suspect was then shot and killed by (team) members as he approached other members of law enforcement with his vehicle.”

It happened in the parking lot of Elite Comfort Solutions, a foam technology company at the end of Farrington Street Southwest, officials said.

Ramseur was wanted for second degree kidnapping, common law robbery, felony larceny, misdemeanor larceny, communicating threats and injury to personal property, the sheriff’s office said. He was out on bond on an unrelated murder charge, officials said.

“The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) has initiated an investigation,” the sheriff’s office said. “The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and other involved law enforcement agencies are cooperating fully with this investigation.”
