A man has been charged with murder after a person died following an assault, police said.

The male victim was found dead when officers were called to an address in Ingrave Road, near Brentwood High Street, Essex, at about 15:30 BST on Thursday after receiving reports of an attack.

John Moore, 38, of Ingrave Road, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court and was remanded into custody.

He will appear at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, attended the scene on Thursday.

Essex Police said it believed there was no threat to the wider community but Det Insp Lisa Hurrell added officers would be patrolling the area to reassure residents.

"We urge members of the public to speak to officers if they have any concerns," she said.

"Whenever an incident of this nature occurs, no matter how rare they are, there is very understandable concern.

"But we responded very quickly to what we understand to have been an isolated incident of violence."
