Meet Meghan Trainor’s kids, Riley and Barry

Meghan Trainor is a happy boy mom.

The pop star and her husband, Daryl Sabara, share sons Riley and Barry. Trainor and Sabara got married in December 2018 in a small backyard ceremony at their home in Los Angeles, four years after meeting through mutual friend and actor, Chloe Grace Moretz.

Trainor had been ready to start a family.

“My mom was 24 when she had me so my body is like, ‘Let’s go, let’s make a family,’” Trainor told Hoda Kotb at the time.

So, let’s meet Riley and Barry!

Riley Trainor

Riley was born on Feb. 14, 2021.

Trainor announced her pregnancy on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna in October 2020.

“We were thinking about who do I tell first, and I was like, I told Hoda since I was 19 going to the TODAY show (that) I will have the most babies in the world,” Trainor said. “It finally happened and we’re so excited.”

At the time, Trainor was about halfway through her pregnancy, which she said was “very easy, so far.”

“I do feel like I’m learning new things every single day,” said Trainor. “I realized how amazing women are. We’re all like, women are superheroes. This is crazy.”

During her 36th week of pregnancy, Trainor shared on Instagram that Riley was breech. “Other than that we are doing amazing and we’re ready to meet this baby!!!!” she wrote.

In May 2023, Trainor recalled feeling surprised by some people’s reactions to her post.

“I got so many DMs — that I didn’t really ask for — saying, “No, don’t do a C-section,’ ‘Flip upside and do all these weird poses,’ ‘Get in the pool,’ and ‘Just figure out how to push him out,’” she told TODAY.com. “I was good with a C-section. Whatever is safest, whatever my doctor thinks. I’m just surrendering ... Everyone stop panicking.”

When Riley was born, he stayed in the NICU.

“I wanted to hug (other NICU parents) but no one talks to each other because you’re all in your own cubicles,” Trainor told TODAY.com. “They would put up little walls so I could try to breastfeed. You kind of look at each other and give a head nod like, ‘I feel you.’”

She added, “I was only there for a week. I looked at some babies and (realized that) they were going to be there for months. It’s just heartbreaking.”

When Trainor stopped breastfeeding Riley after three months, she received more public advice.

“I thought three months was so long and I was so proud of myself because it was such a nightmare for me,” Trainor told TODAY.com. “I got all these comments like, “’Don’t be discouraged,’ ‘You did great’ and ‘You’re not a failure.’”

Trainor never believed she was a “failure,” telling TODAY.com, “Comparison is so tough for all of us but when you’re hearing it from other people too, you’re like, ugh, this isn’t high school. I’m an adult. These are my choices.”

Today, Riley enjoys playing soccer, Trainor said in May while visiting “The Jennifer Hudson Show.”

“I’m a full soccer mom,” Trainor told Hudson. “I bring the blankets, I have a hat that says, ‘Soccer mom’ ... every time he makes a goal, he runs right to us. Every single time.”

Barry Bruce Trainor

Trainor’s second child was born on July 1, 2023.

“On July 1st (our 7 year anniversary of our first date) we welcomed Barry Bruce Trainor into the world,” Trainor wrote on Instagram on July 4 of that year, sharing first photos of her son.

She added, “He was a big boy at 8lbs 7oz...and sideways (transverse), but we had an amazing, successful C-section, and I finally got my skin-to-skin time! Thank you to all of the incredible doctors and nurses who took such great care of us.”

A few months before Barry’s birth, Trainor told TODAY.com that she and Sabara had chosen his name at the beginning of pregnancy.

“We’re very fast. We’re like, ‘This is what it will be’ and then we start introducing my stomach as the name,” said Trainor. “Everyone warned us, ‘Don’t tell the world because they’ll rip you apart!’ but I like announcing (the name) on Instagram with a baby photo.”

“We love ‘B’ names,” she added. “I’ll tell you that.”

Barry and Riley are the best of friends.

In July 2023, Trainor shared a video of the brothers meeting for the first time, writing, “Riley is so gentle, sweet, and absolutely in love with his new best friend.”

A few weeks later, she shared another video of Riley kissing his baby brother and feeding him a bottle.

“I blinked and Barry is a month old,” Trainor wrote. “Riley is so in love! We are all so in love with you sweet boy.”

In a May episode of “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” Trainor described the differences between her two boys.

“Barry, as a baby is so different than Riley. Barry cries more. Barry had an upset tummy,” she said. “Riley was like, our trick baby, like, he was so easy that I was like, ‘Let’s have six. This is a joke.’”

After her second baby, said Meghan, “Four is my dream ... but baby number two, he’s testing me.”
