How much will Miami pay for a slice of pizza? A truck in Wynwood will help us find out

Newman's Own/The Door

How much would you pay for a slice of pizza if you could pay what you want and you learn that the proceeds are aimed toward a charity that helps kids?

Miami pizza fanatics are about to find out Saturday.

Newman’s Own, a food company founded by the late actor Paul Newman that is known for donating its profits to groups that help children facing adversity, hosts its national Pay What You Want Pizza truck in Miami on Saturday.

Here’s how it works: A Pay What You Want Pizza truck rolls into Wynwood Saturday and invites customers to choose their own price for a slice of pizza. Proceeds go to the Newman’s Own Foundation.

You’ve a choice of four kinds of pizza in the Miami run — margherita, supreme, four cheese, and pepperoni.

Where to find the pizza truck

Look for the sea-green pizza truck with its image of a reclining Paul Newman munching on a slice in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District at 170 NW 26th St.

Pizza will be offered from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 13, and you name your price for a slice.

“We can’t wait to share our delicious pizza, celebrate the great generosity in this country, and help even more kids. Come by and enjoy a slice,” said David Best, president and CEO of Newman’s Own, Inc. in a statement.

What are people paying?

The Newman’s Own Pay What You Want Pizza truck started hitting streets in New York City on June 20, and has been to Boston, Philadelphia, Washington and Los Angeles before Miami, Chicago, Michigan and Ohio into July.

Paulina Corcoran, a spokeswoman for the publicity firm The Door, offered the following stats from previous stops

New York City

On average, Staten Islanders paid more per slice than Wall Streeters.

Staten Island average per slice: $3.38.

Wall Street average per slice: $2.42

Some Upper East Siders and Wall Streeters were willing to pay $20 for a single slice. Union Square patrons capped out at $7.50.

Highest price paid at each New York City stop:

— Brooklyn: $10.

— Queens: $5.

— Upper East Side: $20.

— Union Square: $7.50.

— Wall Street: $20.

— Staten Island: $10.

— Bronx average per slice: $2.09.

Boston

People in Boston spent a total of $999.50 on pizza slices during its June 27 stop.

Washington, D.C.

One person spent one penny to get 15 pizza slices on the July 1 stop. Did indigestion follow, we have to wonder?

Philadelphia

— Average price per slice: $3.05.

— One person spent $300 on eight pizza slices. Kind of makes up for the frugal Washington pizza fan.
