National chain plans to close Kansas City area stores. Here’s what to know

LL Flooring, formerly Lumber Liquidators, announced plans last week to close all of its 400 stores across the country after filing for bankruptcy in August.

The hardwood flooring retailer has three locations in the Kansas City area: 300 N.E. 291 Highway in Lee’s Summit, 9800 Quivira Road in Lenexa and 2618 N.E. Vivion Road in the Northland.

A closing sale is already underway at the Northland location. An employee there said Friday that it would close by the end of September.

In Lenexa, an employee said the closing date was “up in the air — maybe a couple of months.”

In Lee’s Summit, an employee said they had not received confirmation that the store would close. “We are staying open unless otherwise told.”

On Monday, LL Flooring announced that it had reached a last-minute agreement with a private equity firm led by Thomas Sullivan, who founded Lumber Liquidators in 1994.

As part of the deal, which is subject to bankruptcy court approval, about half of LL Flooring’s stores would remain open. But it is not yet clear how the Lenexa or Lee’s Summit locations will be affected by the news.
