Eucalyptus tree falls, cuts out power to thousands of PG&E customers in SLO County

Update, 1:10 p.m.:

A third outage in southern San Luis Obispo County was reported at 12:01 p.m., impacting 303 PG&E customers along Highway 227 north of Arroyo Grande.

Power was expected to be restored by 5:30 p.m., according to PG&E’s Outage Center.

The earlier outage impacting 139 customers in Grover Beach was also resolved by PG&E, according to the Outage Center.

PG&E was working in the 1400 block of Fourth Street to repair the main line that was downed after a roughly 70-foot eucalyptus tree fell from the west side of the road across the power lines. At least two other power poles had shattered cross beams at the top.

The road was closed due to the downed line.

A pair of outages related to multiple downed power lines in southern San Luis Obispo County cut power to more than 2,000 PG&E customers Friday afternoon.

According to PG&E’s Outage Center, the two outages in the Oceano area started at around 12:03 p.m., impacting customers as far north as Pismo State Beach and as far east as South 14th Street in Grover Beach.

The outages cut power to a total of 2,199 customers, most of whom who can expect power to be restored around 4:45 p.m., according to the outage center

A smaller group of 139 customers between Brighton and Atlantic City avenues can expect power back at 4:15 p.m, according to the Outage Center.

According to a post on X by the Grover Beach Police Department, traffic signals in Grover Beach were not functioning due to the outage, and should be treated as four-way stops in the meantime.

The issue seems to stem from a reported electrical emergency on 4th Street in Oceano, according to emergency response app PulsePoint.

There were reports of numerous downed power lines in the area, according to emergency scanner traffic.
