Here are the players with New Mexico ties picked in MLB amateur draft

Jul. 16—It was a week to remember for five players with New Mexico ties selected in this week's Major League Baseball amateur draft.

Two former Sandia High School pitchers, a pair of New Mexico State outfielders and a one-time Rio Rancho High infielder were chosen in the three-day, 20-round draft which concluded Tuesday.

The suspense ended relatively early for former Sandia High School teammates Aiden May and Jacob Kmatz, who heard their names called within the first five rounds. Both right-handed pitchers, May and Kmatz also were collegiate teammates at Oregon State.

May went to the Miami Marlins with the 70th overall pick, officially a Competitive Balance Round B selection (between rounds two and three of the draft). The high pick comes with a signing bonus slot value of $1.14 million. May was 7-1 with a 3.05 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 73.2 innings for Oregon State last season.

Kmatz, who was chosen by the Tampa Bay Rays in round five, posted a 7-3 record with a 3.38 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 88 innings for the Beavers. His pick holds a signing bonus slot value of $418,600.

New Mexico State's Keith Jones II and Titus Dimitru heard their names called a bit later in the draft.

Jones went to the Texas Rangers in round nine after hitting .367 with 17 homers and 67 RBIs for the Aggies. His pick carries a slot value of $187,100.

Dimitru was selected in Tuesday's 16th round by the Atlanta Braves after hitting .337 with 12 homers and 40 RBIS in his lone season at New Mexico State. Only the top 10 rounds have assigned slot values.

Former Rio Rancho Ram Gunner Gouldsmith was drafted in Tuesday's 19th round by the Oakland A's. An infielder who played collegiate baseball at Sacramento State, Gouldsmith spent two seasons in Rio Rancho before finishing his prep career in Reno, Nevada.
