'Raiders,' rock and Golden Jubilees: 7 events for this week

Aug. 8—I feel like "Raiders of the Lost Ark" lead me to believe rolling boulders would be a bigger life problem than they actually are. You can enjoy the 1981 classic this week at The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. Or roll on over to one of these other events.

Sixties sensations

Lindy Blaskey, a 2017 New Mexico Music Hall of Fame inductee with the LaVells, will discuss "Ever Changing, Ever Growing: Albuquerque's Music Scene in the 1960s" at the Special Collections Library at 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 10. Lindy Blaskey and the LaVells were one of the most popular bands in the Southwest during the mid-'60s rock explosion. The library is located at 423 Central Ave. NE.

'Why'd it have to be snakes?'

The action gets going at The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History with a special screening of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" on Saturday, Aug. 10. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the exploits of Indiana Jones will begin at dark. Food trucks will be on-site for those wanting to buy a movie snack, and costumes and outdoor chairs are encouraged. Admission is $11-$17 at nuclearmuseum.org.

Soul shaking

Teatro Paraguas is opening the two-person play "Atacama," by Augusto Federico Amador, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9. The shows continue at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, with repeats through Aug. 25. Cultural celebration

The Open Space Visitor Center is hosting Indigefest of Nations from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. The free event will feature dance and music performances, workshops, toddler story time and more. The visitor center is located at 6500 Coors Blvd. NW.

Mathematical masterpiece

The National Hispanic Cultural Center is hosting a free summer movie screening of "Stand and Deliver," with Lone Piñon performing live on Thursday, Aug. 15. The music performance runs from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and the movie begins at 7 p.m. Reserve your seat at nhccnm.org. The NHCC is located at 1701 Fourth St. SW.

Tune in

La Santa Cecilia is bringing their blend of Latin culture, rock and world music to the KiMo Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. Tickets run $25-$45 at artsandculture.cabq.gov. The KiMo is located at 423 Central Ave. NW.

Golden opportunity

Palo Duro Senior Center is celebrating 50 years with several events this week. On Monday, Aug. 12, enjoy performances by the Palo Duro Singers at 11:30 a.m., and Beginning Line Dancers at 12:30 p.m. The fun continues from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, with bingo. From 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, enjoy the Golden Jubilee dinner and dance. Then check out all the center has to offer from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 15, at the open house. All events are free with a Department of Senior Affairs membership except the dinner and dance, which is $5 per person with the membership. Palo Duro Senior Center is located at 5221 Palo Duro NE.
