ReTails moves to WesMon Plaza after 14 years at Morgantown Mall

Aug. 30—For 14 years, ReTails, a nonprofit thrift store benefiting the Mountaineer Spay Neuter Assistance Program (MSNAP), has operated from the Morgantown Mall in Westover.

But much like the items they sell and some of the animals they help, it was time for a new home.

The store will officially open its doors at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4 at a new location in WesMon Plaza on Commerce Drive in Westover.

The new location will be in the corner of the multi-store building to the left of the Big Lots entrance and to the right of Pizza Hut.

Store Manager and MSNAP Vice-Chair Gisele Pernell-Toothman and MSNAP Chair David McQuain said they hope the new location will be easier for people to access compared to the previous location at the end of the mall near The Shoe Department and the former Sears department store.

The new space will also offer better parking options, with spots right outside the door.

Inside the store you will find the same quality items sold in the past, which are 100 % donated and in like-new condition.

ReTails accepts and sells gently used fine china, dishes, cookware, artwork, purses, books, jewelry, small kitchen appliances, toys, wooden furniture, couches, chairs, throw pillows and more—if it is in excellent condition.

They do not accept clothing, shoes, particle board furniture, oversized TV cabinets, building supplies, bedding, magazines /newspapers, strollers, car seats, baby beds or anything that uses a fuel source.

"Right now, we have all these Halloween items, all these fall items that people can flock to and appreciate, " McQuain said.

If you're looking to donate, "we really need Christmas holiday decor, " Pernell-Toothman said. The store annually transforms to feature Christmas items at the start of November and often welcomes holiday characters like Santa Claus and Rudolph to take free pictures with children and pets.

Volunteers refresh the store weekly, so there is new inventory available every week. Pernell-Toothman said they are always looking for volunteers to work three-hour shifts on the sales floor and help on Mondays as they sort, clean and price.

As an extra bonus, donors can be assured that anything they bring to ReTails helps those living right here in Monongalia County and is not being used for profit.

All of the money raised at the store, after rent and utilities are paid, goes to MSNAP to provide vouchers to Monongalia County residents to have their dogs and cats spayed or neutered and lower the number of euthanized animals at local shelters.

Since the group started distributing vouchers in 2008, MSNAP has provided more than 16, 225 of the coupons for local animals.

ReTails will be open 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday — Saturday. Donations can also be made on Mondays by calling ahead at 304-241-1483.
