Roads to close ahead of half marathon

People have been urged to "plan ahead" by a council as hundreds of runners are due to take part in a 13.1-mile road race.

The Ipswich Half Marathon has been organised by Run For All, and the runners will set off from Ipswich Town FC's stadium in Portman Road at 09:30 BST on Sunday.

Road closures along the route will start an hour before the race begins at 08:30 BST.

An Ipswich Borough Council spokesperson has urged people hoping to travel through the town while the race is going on to "plan ahead" in order to avoid diversions and delays.

After the race begins, the runners are due to head down Duke Street, through Ipswich Waterfront, and then along Cliff Lane.

They will continue around the River Orwell before heading down Wherstead Road, along Grafton Way, before reaching the finish line back at the stadium.

The last runner is expected to finish by 13:15, and the roads are due to reopen around 13:30.

The council spokesperson added that there would be some parking restrictions in place along the route from 18:00 Saturday until 13:30 on Sunday.

The full list of road closures has been published by the council.
