Rock climber gets trapped on ledge after rock hits her causing fall, Oregon cops say
A 49-year-old rock climber became trapped on a ledge in Oregon after a rock struck her and she fell, deputies said.
The woman was climbing with a man after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, near Ochoco Reservoir, the Crook County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
Then a loose rock struck her torso, deputies said.
It sent her falling until she landed on a ledge that was about 8 feet wide, authorities said. She was trapped about 30 feet from the ground.
Crook County Search and Rescue was the first team to try and reach her.
But the unit couldn’t get to her because of the rugged terrain and the loose rocks, deputies said.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team was then sent to help her but couldn’t reach her for the same reason, deputies said.
An Oregon National Guard Medevac helicopter got her off the ledge, deputies said.
She was taken to a hospital and was last known being in stable condition.
The Ochoco Reservoir is about a 40-mile drive northeast from Bend.
