Seafood worth tens of thousands of dollars were stolen from a tractor-trailer in the early morning hours while the truck driver slept, Pennsylvania police said.

The driver told officers that he felt movement in the cargo area of his truck around 3:30 a.m. Sept. 4 and saw six men stealing boxes of crab meat, according to a report the Philadelphia Police Department provided to McClatchy News.

The truck was parked in the 600 block of Packer Avenue , according to police. Sysco, a wholesale distributor of food and restaurant supplies, is located at that address.

Authorities said the men fled in three different vehicles, making off with around $42,000 worth of crab meat.

Sysco Philadelphia is cooperating with law enforcement in this investigation and will continue to work with them to ensure they have the information needed to successfully complete their work,” the company said in a statement given to WCAU.

This is the latest in a string of cargo thefts around Philadelphia.

On April 18, a driver was attacked by 12 men who stole approximately 100 cases of snow crabs from his truck valued at about $30,000, McClatchy News previously reported.

In March, someone broke into a parked refrigerated truck and tried to steal dozens of pounds of Pacific cod and Alaskan salmon, KYW-TV reported.
