The Tennessee State football team faces Jackson State in the 33rd Southern Heritage Classic Saturday (6 p.m.) in what could be the final game in the series between the two high-profile HBCU programs.
Jackson State coach Deion Sanders wants out of the contract with the Classic, which is played at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis.
TSU opened its second season under coach Eddie George last week by giving No. 13 Eastern Washington a scare in a 36-29 loss. JSU crushed Florida A&M 59-3 in the Orange Blossom Classic last week.
The last time TSU beat JSU was in 2017. The game was canceled in 2018 because of Inclement weather, JSU won in 2019 and the game was canceled again in 2020 because of COVID-19.
