Vegetation fire closes Highway 41 lane, slows traffic near Cholame Y

A vegetation fire north of the Cholame Y slowed travel on Highway 41 in northern San Luis Obispo County on Monday afternoon.

According to emergency services app PulsePoint, a vegetation fire was reported to Cal Fire at around 1:57 p.m.

Cal Fire crews reported the fire could burn between 2 and 3 acres in total if the fire continued to spread downhill on the north side of Highway 41, but could burn up to 200 acres if it spread uphill, according to emergency scanner traffic.

At around 2:17 p.m., the southbound side of Highway 41 was closed by Caltrans as Cal Fire work crews fought the blaze, according to the Caltrans Quickmap. A small slowdown in traffic was reported in the area of the fire.

By around 2:20 p.m. an air attack unit described the fire as a quarter-acre in size, burning through grass at a moderate rate of spread, with potential to reach 50 acres, according to scanner traffic.

As of 2:40 p.m., a Cal Fire work crew reported that forward progress had stopped, according to scanner traffic.
