A ferry from Cornwall to the Isles of Scilly has suffered a mechanical fault, almost doubling the transit time.

The Isles of Scilly Travel said the Scillonian III, which runs from Penzance to St Mary's, suffered the fault on Saturday.

It said the ferry was running with reduced engine power meaning the journey, which usually takes about two hours and 45 minutes, will take about four hours.

It said day trip bookings from 3 September until 7 September had been cancelled as a result.

Departure times have also been changed, it said.

In a statement on its website, it said: "Thank you for your patience and we are sorry for the disruption this has caused."
