How to watch the 2024 Republican National Convention — and when to tune in

This week, thousands of Republican Party delegates will gather at the 2024 Republican National Convention to nominate their candidates for the upcoming presidential election in November.

The convention comes two days after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. A gunman opened fire, injuring Trump and killing one spectator. Two others were also shot and are now in stable condition, according to NBC News.

The shooter has been identified by law enforcement authorities as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. A motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Here's what you need to know about this year's Republican National Convention, including how to watch and when to tune in.

When is the 2024 Republican National Convention?

The Republican National Convention will take place over the course of four days, beginning Monday, July 15, and ending Thursday, July 18.

This year, the convention will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While in-person attendance is only open to delegates, politicians, media members and volunteers, according to The Associated Press, viewers can still watch events on several platforms.

What time does the Republican National Convention start?

The convention will kick off it’s first official session on Monday, July 15, at 1:45 p.m. ET, with an end time of 5:45 p.m. ET, according to NBC Insider. The second session will follow and run from 6:45 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET.

On Tuesday, July 16, the official session will start at 6 p.m. ET and will run until 11 p.m. ET. The next official session will take place the following day on Wednesday, July 17, from 6:45 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET.

The final official session will close out the convention on Thursday, July 18, which will also run 6:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. ET.

How to watch the Republican National Convention

NBC will be streaming live coverage of the convention each day here.

The Republican National Convention's official YouTube site will also be live-streaming the events every night at 7 p.m. ET.

Is former President Donald Trump expected to speak?

According to NBC Insider, former President Trump is expected to make a speech at the event and accept the party’s nomination for president.

Who else is expected to speak at the convention?

Several lawmakers and GOP candidates for office are among the list of names expected to speak, including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz and Elise Stefanik, reported MSNBC.

The four individuals reported to be at the top of Trump’s list for vice president — Sens. Marco Rubio, JD Vance and Tim Scott and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum — are also slated to speak.

A few nonpoliticians are on the list of speakers as well, including former Fox News political talk show host Tucker Carlson, country singer Lee Greenwood and Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White.

Additionally, Trump’s 2024 competitors Gov. Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy are expected to speak.
