Why did Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones say it’s fair to blame him for team’s 1-2 start?

The Dallas Cowboys have started the season with a 1-2 record.

Who’s to blame?

Team owner Jerry Jones was on the Shan & RJ show on 105.3 The Fan and accepted responsibility for the team’s slow start, agreeing with an on-air poll in which fans found Jones at fault.

According to the poll conducted by WFAA-TV, more than 70% blamed Jones for the Cowboys’ start to the season and Jones agreed with the critique.

“That’s very fair,” Jones said “It’s well known that no decision is ultimately made here for what I either have acquiesced [to] or approved it. That’s very fair; how could you think otherwise? Whether it be who’s out there playing, out there coaching, whether it be the stadium you’re walking into, that’s the way it is.”

Jones reiterated his belief in the team’s personnel despite the team’s performance and pointed out how the team started the season last year.

“I think what we didn’t fix against the Ravens will ultimately get fixed, that’s not just optimism I like our personnel. I like the way we’re going about fixing it. It’s pretty apparent we got some pretty glaring areas that we can get better in and I think we will,” said Jones, “We were 2-3 last year and we ended up winning 12 games during the regular season. We weren’t as ready as we would’ve liked to have been for the playoffs. But I think that we’re certainly learning about what not to do that’s for sure, we played some top competition early.”

The Cowboys will play the New York Giants in their first NFC East game of the season and despite not wanting to call the game a must-win, Jones recognized its importance.

“I don’t want to minimize the importance of playing New York, they’re in our division, that says enough right there,” said Jones, “It’s a tough place to play, but still, again, what’s a must-win? We play 17 games.”

The Cowboys play the Giants at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday at MetLife Stadium.
