The zTrip driver wounded in a weekend shooting in Kansas City’s Northeast area remains in critical but stable condition at a hospital, a police spokesman said Wednesday.

Officers responding to a reported shooting shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday found the driver in the 3900 block of East Ninth Street in the Lykins neighborhood. Emergency medical crews took the driver, who had been shot, to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Kansas City Police Department does not track the number of non-fatal shootings and assaults involving drivers for ride-sharing or ride-hailing services, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a police spokesman.

However, DiMartino said he spoke with detectives in the department’s assault squad and they do not believe the shooting is part of a pattern.

“As with every investigation, they will always look for emerging patterns,” DiMartino said.

As of Sunday, there have been 450 non-fatal shootings in Kansas City, DiMartino said. That’s up 25% from 359 non-fatal shootings for the same period last year.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
