NH sports briefs: Crompton, Dempsey hit 1,000-point mark

Jan. 22—A pair of Granite State women recently hit the 1,000-point career milestone for their college basketball teams.

Leah Crompton, a graduate student at Plymouth State, became the 13th player in school history to score her 1,000th point in a PSU uniform. Crompton, of Dunbarton, accomplished the feat on Jan. 17 in the third quarter of the Panthers' loss to Southern Maine. She finished with nine points.

Crompton scored 882 points playing for Vermont State University Lyndon from 2018 to 2022 before transferring to Plymouth State.

Also, on Jan. 4, Windham's Sarah Dempsey, a junior at Endicott College, hit a fourth-quarter free throw against Curry for her 1,000th career point. She finished the game with 19 points.

Dempsey is averaging 17.9 points per game this season for the Gulls.

UNH-Maine hockey weekend sold out

The UNH Department of Athletics announced that tickets are sold out for the men's hockey games between the Wildcats and rival Maine on Friday, Feb. 16, and Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Whittemore Center in Durham.

UNH undergrad students can still claim a limited number of standing-room-only tickets for the Friday game.

UNH (17-7-1 overall and 5-4-1 in Hockey East) remained No. 17 in Monday's national poll conducted by USCHO.com. Boston University and Boston College stayed in the top two spots, and Maine jumped from No. 8 to No. 6.

UNH visits Vermont this weekend for games on Friday and Saturday nights.

Hanover's Perreard is top NH XC runner

Hanover High sophomore Lea Perreard on Monday was announced as the 2023-24 Gatorade New Hampshire girls cross country athlete of the year. The award celebrates the nation's top high school athletes for excellence on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

Perreard swept the NHIAA Meet of Champions and the Division II state meet this past fall, clocking the fastest all-divisions time on state meet day, leading the Bears to a second-place finish. Perreard's winning time at the MOC was a personal-best 17:50.91 for the 3.1-mile course at Alvirne High.

She was also the state's top prep girl at the New England championships, where she finished seventh overall.

Perreard has volunteered locally on behalf of the Upper Valley High Trail Corps and the Friends of Oak Hill (Outdoor Center) corps. A US Ski & Snowboard-certified juniors coach, she has worked at Bill Koch League Ford Sayre Ski Club events for the past three ski seasons.

She has also donated her time to the Youth-In-Action service organization and as a counselor in training at Horizons Day Camp.

Perreard has maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.

Herlihy, Glidden shine for Nashua South

Senior Abby Herlihy and junior Renee Glidden led the way as the Nashua South gymnastics team scored a season-high 110.05 points in its recent meet against competitors from Nashua North, Bishop Guertin, Pelham and Windham.

Herlihy scored a 29.15 all-around score, Glidden a 28.8.

Pinkerton girls' basketball team tops Salem

The trio of Brooke Benz, Elizabeth Lavoie and Syd Gerossie combined for 52 points to lead Pinkerton Academy's girls basketball team past Salem 74-50 on Monday.

Benz and Lavoie scored 18 each, Gerossie 16, as the Astros improved to 10-0 in Division I. The Astros visit Dover on Friday night.

Salem dropped to 7-3.
