No. 1 FSU soccer held to a draw against No. 24 Georgia, extend unbeaten run to 27 games

No. 1 Florida State soccer came from behind to tie No. 24 Georgia 1-1 Thursday at the Seminole Soccer Complex.

After an early Bulldogs goal, Taylor Huff's equalizer in the second half extended the program's unbeaten streak to 27 games before a crowd of 1,684.

However, the Seminoles saw an 18-game home winning streak and an 18-game winning streak overall ended with the tie. It was the first tie for FSU since a 3-3 draw against the University of North Carolina last September.

FSU went 13 straight games without falling behind. Tori Penn's goal in the 15th minute broke that streak and was the first time the Seminoles have conceded this season.

"Proud of them. It was a bummer to go down 15 minutes in, didn't have to happen but that's the game," FSU head coach Brian Pensky said. "I thought our response at halftime was great, we deserved at least a tie and we could have won the game."

Huff scored the equalizer in the second half, her fourth goal of the season. The senior went on a mazy run in the penalty box before curling the ball into the far corner to level the score in the 63rd minute.

The Seminoles took 36 shots in the game, with 15 on goal, but Georgia keeper Jordan Brown barely put a foot wrong all night, making 14 saves to keep FSU from scoring the winner.

"We had 36 shots, and yeah they sat in but they [Georgia] are still a good team and we only scored one goal," Pensky said. "Their goalkeeper made some great plays."

Sophomore goalkeeper Addie Todd has had a quiet start to the season with FSU often holding the majority of the possession and keeping opponents away from the box. Thursday's game was Todd's first true test in goal, and Pensky credited her for keeping the game tied.

"We needed her to rise to the occasion, she hadn't been in that predicament before, and absolutely she did so," Pensky. "We had some scary moments where they could have gotten the game-winner and Addie held it down."

The Seminoles return to action on Sunday, facing Villanova at noon. Pensky said after peppering 36 shots on net and scoring once, he wants his team to finish more chances on Sunday.

"Hopefully we can score one goal, and if we are fortunate more than one goal," Pensky said. "We just got to build on the positive energy and they should be proud of the performance. Just keep on doing what we are doing and hope for a better result."
