Ocean City, Dewey Beach deck parties and more keep shoulder season rocking at beaches

When the tourists are away, the locals come out to play. With the shoulder season upon us, beach hot spots are presenting live music galore — with much of it being held outside.

In Dewey Beach, the seasonal Bottle & Cork nightclub has two weekends left, and the merriment will include a pair of free concerts. The colorfully-garbed Bayside Tigers will bring its high-energy Saved by the ‘90s revue to the stage at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20. Next weekend will find the Cork closing things out on a high note when it presents a freebie by country star Chase Wright at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29.

By contrast, the Cork’s nearby sister business the Rusty Rudder has lots of events scheduled this month and next month — but this week will include the last of the Thursday night deck parties with Love Seed Mama Jump at 9 p.m. Sept. 19. The following week will see the Nashville Nights Band presenting its tribute to ‘90s country at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.

Fager's Island keeps the fun going with Ocean City deck parties

In Ocean City, Fager’s Island has plenty of live music available on its outdoor deck for those who like to go out early and make it home before it’s dark out. Sons of Pirates will perform at 5:30 p.m. on both Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21. While the group specializes in Jimmy Buffet songs, it will also throw in some tunes by the likes of Bob Marley, James Taylor and others.

The shoulder season Monday deck parties are also back each week. Enjoy music from DJ Greg and DJ Hector on Sept. 23, followed by Opposite Directions with DJ Wax on Sept. 30.

Last but not least at Fager’s, tickets have gone on sale for its Fall Wine Fest, which will take place from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19 ($80). The annual event will include a performance by 70’s disco act Groovalicious.

Rehoboth Beach's Big Chill Surf Cantina offers freebie for locals

In Rehoboth Beach, the Big Chill Surf Cantina on southbound Route 1 will host its annual Bar Fam Jam from noon to midnight Saturday, Sept. 21. The free shindig serves as a customer appreciation party and celebration of “Locals’ Summer.” There will be three music acts — Joe Esham (1 to 4 p.m.), The Leftovers (4 to 7 p.m.) and Troll Tribe (8 to 11 p.m.).

Elsewhere in Rehoboth, tickets are selling like hotcakes for a tried and true fall tradition happening next month. The 34th annual Rehoboth Autumn Jazz Festival will run Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 17-20.

Four of the concerts have already sold out in advance, including the 34th Grand Jam (taking place at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center on Sunday, Oct. 20.) However, tickets are still available for approximately a dozen shows taking place at various venues in Dewey, Lewes and Rehoboth.
