Coroner's office identifies two kayakers who drowned at Salt Fork State Park

LORE CITY − Two men died in a kayak accident Sunday at Salt Fork State Park, according to a news release from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The Guernsey County Coroner's Office on Tuesday identified the two men as Thomas Fowler, 53, of Zanesville; and Robert Hurst, 69, of Chillicothe.

The two men were kayaking near the beach at approximately 2:45 p.m. Sunday when one of the kayaks capsized, sending the individual into the water. The person in the other kayak jumped into the water to help. Both men were reported by ODNR to have drowned in the incident.

The one body was recovered soon after the incident occurred; the other body was recovered several hours later.
