Get off the couch and run the Mohican 5k, Fuzzy Fandango or the Doughnut Mile for a good cause

Participants of the Mohican 5K will head toward the starting line at 9 a.m. Saturday as they prepare to run three miles through Loudonville. The race kicks off the 5k, events in Ashland County in November.

The 16th annual Mohican 5K proceeds help maintain and improve the area's bike path. It begins at the Wally Road, West Main Street intersection, and adjacent to the bike path. According to the long-running event's website, participants will head south on Wally Road to Route 3 where they continue on the bike path south to the halfway point. They will then return by heading north but staying on the bike path to the finish point near the Wally Road ball fields along the Black Fork Mohican River.

Pre-Race Entry fee: $30 for adults and $20 for students 17 years and under. Day of Race Entry Fee is $35 for adults and $25 for students 17 years and under.

Other 5K races going on in Ashland County this month

Along with the Mohican 5k, the 14th annual Fuzzy Fandango is taking place on Nov. 11. The event has five races that day - 50k, 25k, 9M, 5K trail run, and 1M fun run. The 50K race kicks off the event at 7:30 a.m. with the other races following every half hour. The last race, 1M fun run will be the final race of the event and will kick off 10:30 a.m. Post race food and beverage will be available to all participants.

The Fuzzy Fandango is described as a trail running "extravaganza" that encourages runners, walkers, and even sloggers of all abilities to enjoy the Mohican region by exploring the trails. A new route has also been designed for the race that is said to have many hills. The race will start and finish on the Camp Nuhop's main property in Perrysville.

There will also be a raffle featuring a Garmin Watch voucher, One of Three Free Shoe vouchers, and one $50 voucher for Fleet Feet in Wooster, Lewis Center, Hamilton Quarter and Upper Arlington. Registration for each race are as follows: The Fuzzy Fandango 5K late registration is $50. The Fuzzy Fandango 9 mile late registration is $60. The Fuzzy Fandango 25k late registration is $75. The Fuzzy Fandango 50k late registration is $90. There is also a Fuzzy Fandango Kids Run with a $20 late registration. All participants must be registered by Nov. 9.

The Ashland County Young Life is going to be hosting its first annual Turkey Trot 5k and Doughnut Mile on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23. The event, which will be at Freer Field (1264 Center Street Ashland), will feature the 5K run as well as a 1-mile donut run. The 5K race alone is $25 while the doughnut run is $10. Participants can choose to do a single race or do both races for $30.

The event will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with the 5K, and the doughnut mile will take place at 9:15 a.m. Each of the participants will receive a long sleeve t-shirt. With the doughnut run, participants will be eating 4 mini doughnuts throughout the course. The first stop will be at the quarter mile mark, then the half mile mark, the three-quarters of a mile mark, then at the finish line. Costumes for the doughnut run are encouraged. All proceeds from the event will go towards the Ashland County Young Life organization.
