‘Presumed Innocent’ S2 Is a Go Apple

If you’ve seen the finale of Presumed Innocent, you’re probably wondering what happens next. After a grueling trial, Rusy Sabich was found innocent, and Carolyn’s murderer was finally revealed—but is that really the end of their story?

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that Apple TV+ renewed Presumed Innocent for a second season. The bad news is that it likely won't include Rusty Sabich. The streamer revealed that season 2 will track a “suspenseful, brand-new case”—which could mean just about anything. Thankfully, the creative team behind season 1 has signed on to helm the next chapter. Jake Gyllenhaal, David E. Kelly, and J.J. Abrams will return as co-producers, and Scott Turow—who wrote the novel Presumed Innocent is based on—will be a co-executive producer.

Over the past few weeks, Presumed Innocent has become Apple TV+’s most-viewed drama. It makes sense. Gyllenhaal’s portrayal of Rusty is downright captivating. In each episode, the man watches his life unravel. His mistress is dead, his wife is beside herself, his children are confused, and his coworkers are out to get him. Combine all that drama with a grisly murder, and you get a show that’s impossible to turn off.

The finale premiered on July 24, and all eight episodes are available to stream on Apple TV+. While we wait for the next batch, here’s everything we know about season 2 of Presumed Innocent.

Who Will Be in Presumed Innocent Season 2?

Apple TV has not confirmed if anyone from season 1 will return in season 2. If we’re lucky, we might get a cameo from Ruth Negga and Jake Gyllenhaal, but prepare to meet some new characters.

What Will Season 2 Be About?

All we know for sure is that season 2 will feature a new case. The series could become an anthology and introduce an entirely new plot, or the producers could adapt Turow’s sequel, Innocent, into season 2. They’d have to make a few changes to the plot, but the story takes place around twenty years after Carolyn Polhemus’ trial. Rusty’s wife, Barbara, is dead, and he’s been accused of murder. Naturally, he and Tommy reunite for another courtroom showdown, and this time, Tommy’s even more determined to take Rusty down. I’d love to see that play out, but I’m sure whatever they come up with will be worth the watch.

When Will Season 2 Come Out?

The release date is under wraps. We will keep you updated as new information emerges, but if Apple TV+ starts production soon, the next season could premiere in late 2025.
