The Samsung ovens are being recalled because the knobs on the appliance can be accidentally activated by people and pets, posing a fire hazard.

"Samsung has received over 300 reports of unintentional activation of the front-mounted knobs by humans or pets since 2013.," read the Consumer Product Safety Commission's recall alert. "These ranges have been involved in approximately 250 fires.

"At least 18 fires caused extensive property damage," continued the alert. "Approximately 40 injuries have been reported, eight of which required medical attention, and there have been reports of seven fires involving pet deaths."

Which Samsung ovens are on the recall list?

There are dozens of Samsung oven models on the recall list, with model numbers beginning with the either "NE5" or NE6" identifier.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Samsung ovens were sold between May 2013 and August 2024 at Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, Lowe’s and online at Samsung.com.

The model number of Samsung ovens are located on the inside upper left corner of the oven door or inside the storage bin located on the bottom of the oven.

My Samsung oven is on the recall list. What should I do?

Samsung won't give you a new stove to replace your recalled one, but it will provide you a remedy free of charge, but you will have to contact Samsung directly.

"Consumers should contact Samsung to receive a free set of knob locks or covers compatible with their model of electric slide-in range to install," advised the Consumer Product Safety Commission. "Consumers using the recalled ranges without knob locks or covers are cautioned to keep children and pets away from the knobs, to check the range knobs to ensure they are off before leaving the home or going to bed, and to not leave objects on the range when the range is not in use.

"Consumers with Wi-Fi enabled ranges can enable the 'Cooktop On' notification on the Samsung SmartThings app to receive alerts on their smartphone when a cooktop burner is turned on."

Samsung created a website dedicated to the slide-in oven recall and toll-free hotline — 1-833-775-0120 — that owners can access at any time to request the free set of knob covers and locks.
