Get a peak at Fall River's new waterfront view. Davol St. Corridor plans to be unveiled.

FALL RIVER— The City of Fall River and the Fall River Redevelopment Authority are set to unveil an illustrative draft of master plans for the development of the Davol Street Corridor, and they’re asking for feedback.

A community open house will be held on Monday, Sept. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Government Center atrium where members of the community can view a large schematic plan stretched over a few tables with renderings on easels.

Inviting community members to engage with these materials will help to “give a sense” of what may be forthcoming in terms of the planning and development taking place, said Fall River Redevelopment Authority Executive Director Sarah Page.

Once billed as a four-year plan to makeover the city’s waterfront adjacent the Route 79 expressway, the $135 million improvement project is on track to be completed in 2026.

Roadwork continues on Route 79 and Davol Street in Fall River, where MassDOT has removed an elevated highway and is replacing it with an urban boulevard.

Early this year, the RDA board signed a $361,000 contract with Stantec, an engineering and consulting firm. The company was given an eight-month deadline to produce a master plan for the 18 acres of developable land along the Taunton River that were opened up with the redevelopment of Route 79 to determine what residential and commercial development is appropriate. At a meeting in January, Page said they will be doing a market analysis and looking at MassDOT’s plans to understand where all the utilities are and what the parameters are for this development of this land, according to Herald News reports.

Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and share their first impressions.

“We really want the community to attend,” Page said.
