PennDOT aims to move the S. 22nd Street bridge over the Quittapahilla Creek: See the plans

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Engineering District 8-0 is inviting the public to an online plan display regarding the project to relocate the South 22nd Street bridge over Quittapahilla Creek.

The project proposes to realign 22nd Street at the Chestnut Street intersection and construct a new bridge downstream approximately 150 feet, according to officials. South 22nd Street is located between Chestnut Street and Route 422 in North Cornwall, North Lebanon and West Lebanon townships.

The new bridge will include a 10-foot pedestrian access for the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail, Segment 6C.

"The existing structure and roadway approaches will be removed from within the floodplain limits," officials said in a release. "Pedestrian improvements will be included in the project. A 4-way stop is proposed at Chestnut Street and South 22nd Street."

A public plans display will be held from 7-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct.1 at the North Cornwall Township Office, 330 South 18th St., Lebanon.

A digital version of the information will be available to view online until Oct. 24, 2024. Officials said the purpose of the plans display is to receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project.

"This project will be coordinated with an adjacent township project that will improve parking facilities for the Lebanon Valley Motorcycle Club," officials said. "Additionally, a floodplain restoration project led by the Lebanon County Stormwater Consortium will be incorporated into the project to continue the restoration downstream of the proposed structure. This element of the project was previously permitted and will restore the floodplain to its historic pre-development condition."

During construction, vehicle traffic will be detoured on Chestnut Street, South 16th Street and Route 422 for a detour length of 1.26 miles, according to officials. Pedestrians will use the existing bridge crossing during construction.
