As someone who takes multiple daily prescriptions, allergy relief meds, and vitamins, I know that managing it all can quickly descend into chaos. The best pill organizers help me stay on track and make travel a breeze, ensuring everything is secure and in its place.

Like its contents, pill cases come in all different shapes and sizes, including many that conveniently fit into a bag or backpack. Gone are the days when I used to pack an entire prescription bottle in my suitcase on a trip or throw a flimsy sandwich bag of loose pills into my overnight bag! Now, pill organizers range from basic square boxes to smart cases—we found one that connects to a mobile app that alerts you when it’s time to take a pill.

Beyond being a catch-all for medications, pill boxes can help you remember what you’ve already taken and when a prescription is running low. Maybe you have medicines that you need to take in the morning and evening—we’ve found cases that differentiate so you can be sure you take the right pill at the right time. Or perhaps you want to dish out your pills for the entire week or month—we’re sharing cases with day and date labels to take the guesswork out of your routine.

Ahead, find the best pill organizers and cases for all of your needs and preferences, according to my own testing and customer reviews.

iMedassist Moisture-Proof Weekly Pill Organizer

This pill organizer truly has it all. With 28 compartments, it easily held a month’s worth of my pills, and can also be used to organize a week’s worth based on different times of day. You can keep all of the compartments together in their container (which comes in four different colors) for a larger pill box, or detach one of the columns to take on the go when you travel. For shorter trips, I would also suggest removing some of the compartments from the case and using the remaining space for other items like makeup or jewelry. Plus, it’s moisture proof.

What reviewers say: “This is a very nice design and seems to be quite sturdy as well. The space saved alone is worth it as most other containers are simply too bulky! Yet despite the reduction of size, it can still accommodate huge capsules and tablets like no one’s business! It’s just a great pill container in both form and function.”

Daily Pill Organizer

This pocket-sized pill organizer is my favorite for traveling. I love that it’s available in five colors, so I was able to match it to my favorite carry-on. It also features six small compartments and two large ones for different pill sizes, so you can keep everything you need in one place—but separate. The smaller compartments were great for smaller prescription pills and Ibuprofen while I used the larger ones for bigger supplements and small jewelry items like earrings. It also comes with a sheet of labels for days of the week, as well as blank ones you can fill in yourself. Plus, it includes a convenient pick which made opening the compartments so much easier. No broken nails here!

What reviewers say: “I actually bought this because of a friend of mine. I saw she had it and it’s very handy. It’s sturdy, easy to remove to clean, secure, the compartment sizes are perfect, organized, and easy to use. Highly recommend.”

Pill Organizer 2 Times a Day

One of my favorite things about this pill organizer is that it doesn’t immediately look like a pill organizer. The outer case is made of moisture-proof pebbled faux leather and is designed to look like a small wallet or wristlet, so it blended right in with the contents of my bag. If you take pills in the morning and at night, this weekly organizer is also a great choice. I also love that the compartments are removable, so depending on the length of your trip, you could take some out and have enough space to pack some other essentials, like small jewelry items, lip balm, or floss. Plus, the case comes in multiple colors.

What reviewers say: “I purchased this for a two week European adventure and it worked perfectly,” said one reviewer. “The containers never randomly opened, which was huge–no scattered pills in your purse or suitcase.”

Weekly Pill Organizer

This weekly organizer features a sleek, compact design, which made it look more like a portable charger in my bag than a pill organizer. Compared to all of the others I tried, it was the easiest to open, as it slides rather than popping open individual compartment doors. The ergonomic design also makes it a great choice if you have arthritis or joint pain. It also comes in six colors and holds a surprisingly large amount of pills despite its portable size.

What reviewers say: “I bought this in two colors and I love it! It’s small/smooth/compact, so great for travel and daily use. It has a ‘clicking’ feature so it just pulls out to the day you want. It’s simple, but exactly what you’d want. And cute!”

Monthly Pill Organizer

With 31 compartments labeled for the days of the month plus an extra storage spot, this pill organizer is perfect if you want to refill your pills as little as possible. You can choose from five different colors to match your aesthetic. Plus, if you’re on the go, you can easily pop out a group of four compartments to fit conveniently in your bag.

What reviewers say: “Love this pill container. I struggle with memory issues, remembering to fill a weekly container and then I get confused what week and what day I’m on. This solves all of that!”

Monthly Pill Organizer

If you have a higher budget to spend on your pill organizer, this one is worth the investment. It links up to a mobile app that sends you a notification reminding you when to take your pill, making it a great choice if you tend to forget to take your medications or if you need to take something at a specific time. Plus, it has lights on the lid that correspond to the different compartments and light up accordingly to remind you which pills to take and how many.

What reviewers say: “I really like this product for organizing my supplements and medications,” said one shopper. “It has really cool features such as the alarms, the grid lights, and the app. It’s also very convenient in that it doesn’t take a lot of monotonous work to fill up the compartments. I hated parsing out all of my pills in weekly and monthly pill organizers…this removes all that aggravation.”

How to choose the best pill organizer

  • Size matters. When looking for a pill organizer, be sure to consider the size of the pills you take and make sure the compartments are the proper dimensions. If you take pills that are a mix of shapes and lengths, you might consider an organizer with multiple compartment sizes.

  • Think ahead. It’s important to think of how long you want your pills to stay in the organizer. If you prefer a month-to-month schedule, you might consider a monthly organizer. By contrast, if you want a smaller case, you might prefer to get a weekly one and refill it more often.

  • Know your routine. If you’re someone who travels frequently, you should take that into account. Getting a larger monthly pill organizer might not make sense if you have to transfer your pills into a smaller one often. On the other hand, if you don’t travel a lot, a monthly organizer might be a good fit, as it doesn’t have to be refilled as often.

  • Consider versatility. As someone who takes pills daily, but not enough different types to fill many weekly organizers, it was a huge plus for me when the compartments could also fit other items like jewelry. When looking for the best pill organizer for you, think about other ways you might use it and whether the compartments lend themselves to those uses.
