Plan to bulldoze supermarket and build a bigger one
A Leeds supermarket could be demolished to make way for a bigger store.
Farmfoods, the frozen food retailer, has applied for planning permission to redevelop its store on York Road, Seacroft.
The company said the plan would improve the appearance of the site and help it to compete with Aldi and Tesco stores nearby.
A planning statement submitted to Leeds City Council said a larger store would provide a more "pleasant, modern and efficient shopping experience".
The Local Democracy Reporting Service said the council would consider the application to redevelop the Farmfoods building and a neighbouring unit, which is used by a charity shop.
New jobs
The new building would be a single-storey retail unit with solar panels, parking spaces and pedestrian access.
Farmfoods said retail floorspace would increase by around 1,300 sq ft (120 sq m), and between five and 10 jobs would be created.
According to a planning statement, the development would result in "significant economic and employment benefits" for Seacroft and neighbouring areas.
During construction, Farmfoods staff would be temporarily redeployed to other local stores.
The council is due to consider the proposal following a public consultation.
