Police: Texas man says he strangled wife in Nashville. Her 2023 death first ruled suicide

A man now living in Texas has been charged in connection with the 2023 death of his wife after police say he confessed to strangling her in their South Nashville home.

Donovan Holt, 33, was arrested in San Antonio, Texas last week after he was indicted by a recent grand jury on reckless homicide, evidence tampering and false reporting charges.

In July 2023, April Holt, 29, was found unresponsive in the bathroom of the couple's Cane Ridge Parkway home with a plastic bag taped tightly around her neck, police said at the time. She was taken to Southern Hills Hospital, where she died.

The medical examiner's office originally classified April Holt's death as a suicide in November 2023. Her cause of death was listed as complications of suffocation.

Police said Donovan Holt confessed to strangling April Holt to Nashville Cold Case Unit detectives who were visiting Texas in July. He will soon be extradited to Tennessee to face the charges, police noted.
