Popular hamburger grill in west Fort Worth to reopen with patio service after storm

JD’s Hamburgers, a smash-hit new burger and brunch grill in far west Fort Worth, will reopen sometime after March 7 as a patio restaurant while the roof and dining room are repaired, owner Gigi Howell wrote Friday on Facebook.

JD’s lost its roof and sign Thursday in a windstorm that also damaged homes and businesses across North Texas.

Staffers and roofers began work early Friday as JD’s began the process of reroofing and repairing the 60-year-old building, a former roadhouse tavern at 9901 Camp Bowie Blvd. West in the old feedstore town of Westland, now part of Fort Worth.

“All of our dining will be outside right now,” Howell said in a video posted on Facebook — “as we do not have an ‘inside.’ “

The restaurant already had an expansive back patio and play area. The booths and tables from indoors have been moved under cover onto the patio, with more tables spread across the yard.

She called it “JD’s Al Fresco.”

“We don’t know what the menu will look like, we don’t know what opening time will look like, but we know we can’t wait to have y’all back here,” she said.

JD’s opened last summer as a burger-and-beer grill featuring burgers with toppings such as Hatch chile queso or Parker County peach pico de gallo.

The restaurant also serves grilled chicken sandwiches and weekend brunch quesadillas or sliders, plus desserts with Plano-based Henry’s Ice Cream.

JD’s is a neighborhood cause celebre. Howell grew up nearby and spent summers playing all over Westland and Mary’s Creek.

Howell is a partner with Bourke Harvey, also the operator of Rogers Roundhouse burger bar and grill near University Park Village and Curly’s Frozen Custard.
