“The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh” Navigate Moving from India to America in Hilarious Trailer: Watch (Exclusive)

The series stars 'Lost' alum Naveen Andrews as family patriarch Mahesh Pradeep

Watch out, Pittsburgh — the Pradeeps are in town!

Vijal Patel, the Emmy-nominated co-executive producer behind Black-ish, has drawn inspiration from his personal life experiences to bring The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh to Prime Video and Amazon Freevee.

The eight-episode half-hour comedy, premiering on Thursday, Oct. 17, follows the Pradeep family, led by patriarch Mahesh Pradeep (Naveen Andrews) and matriarch Sudha Pradeep (Sindhu Vee), as they navigate moving to America from India with their three kids: Bhanu (Sahana Srinivasan), Kamal (Arjun Sriram), and Vinod (Ashwin Sakthivel).

"As told through hilarious (and often conflicting) flashbacks from an interrogation room, the Pradeeps quickly find themselves embroiled—romantically, personally, and professionally—with a polar-opposite neighborhood family, leading to a predicament with many surprising twists," a press release shared with PEOPLE teases.

PEOPLE is exclusively unveiling the show's first trailer, which begins with Sudha and her family sitting across from Dark Suit (Pete Holmes) and Light Suit (Romy Rosemont) as they recall how they arrived in America "two years ago."

Viewers are then shown flashbacks of the family's first few days in Pennsylvania, including meeting their new neighbors, played by Megan Hilty, Ethan Suplee, and Nicholas Hamilton, applying for a loan, finding a job, and going to school.

“This show is from a very personal place and explores the many facets of the immigrant struggle. As my parents say, the pain got funnier over time—like wine," said Patel, who serves as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner, in a statement.

Lauren Anderson, Head of Brand and Content Innovation, Amazon MGM Studios, added in her own statement that "The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh shines a comedic light on the centuries-old, universally relatable first-generation experience."
