Prep notes: 3 New Mexico basketball players rated among top 100

Sep. 27—ESPN's latest rankings of the top girls basketball recruits in the nation for 2027 — its "Terrific 25" as it labels it — has Corona's 6-foot-6 Harper Dunn at No. 22.

Dunn, the incoming sophomore, has two dozen Division I offers already.

Dunn also is rated No. 11 in the Class of 2027 by Junior All-Star Basketball. She will be in Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend for the Coach Wootten Basketball Camp; top boys and girls prospects from the classes of 2025, 2026 and 2027 will attend the evaluation camp.

Two Albuquerque players are on ESPN W's top 100 for the Class of 2025.

Former Eldorado guard Bella Hines is rated No. 29 (she left Eldorado earlier this year to join ABC Prep's newly formed elite girls team), and Sandia High guard Sydney Benally is rated No. 88.

SHOWCASE FOR REYNOLDS: La Cueva High senior Braiden Reynolds, a pitcher and first baseman who last spring was chosen as the New Mexico Gatorade Player of the Year, is adding something to his calendar.

The right-hander, who has committed to Grand Canyon in Phoenix, is set to represent the state at the Power Showcase World Classic. He will participate in the home run derby and the World Classic game. The event is scheduled Nov. 24-26 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

LA CUEVA/OHIO: The La Cueva girls soccer team last year welcomed a team from Ohio during the regular season. Last weekend, the Ohio team returned the favor.

In one of the longest trips for an APS sports program since out-of-state trips were allowed, La Cueva journeyed to Ohio and met two programs.

The Bears tied Brunswick 1-1, and beat Strongsville 2-0. Strongsville traveled to play La Cueva last year. Brunswick and Strongsville are both to the south and west of Cleveland.

"Oh my God the trip was absolutely amazing," Bears coach Amber Ashcraft said. And, she added, this was not a one-off.

"We're already trying to plan for something next year," she said.
