President Joe Biden stopped at a Raleigh Cook Out in trip to NC. What did he order?

President Joe Biden visited Raleigh on Thursday to announce new funding for high-speed internet. But he didn’t leave town before making a stop at a “small eatery known for its shakes,” as a White House pool reporter reported.

That’s right: Biden stopped at Cook Out, where he is now a repeat customer.

The Greensboro-founded fast food restaurant, with hundreds of locations, has a cult-like following in the Tar Heel State and beyond.

Biden last visited a North Carolina Cook Out while campaigning in 2020, buying vanilla and chocolate shakes from a location in Durham.

He stopped Thursday at the location on Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh just before 3 p.m. Thursday, joined by Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper.

A video posted to X, formerly Twitter, shows Biden and Cooper at the walk-up order window, surrounded by security and reporters.

“The governor was bragging about your place,” Biden told some Cook Out workers outside of the restaurant, according to the pool report. “’He said ‘you have the best shakes in North Carolina.’”

Biden told reporters that he ordered a “black and white” milkshake that was “triple thick,” according to the pool reporter. “Black and white” isn’t a flavor on Cook Out’s extensive menu of 40 milkshake flavors, but he told reporters that it was a vanilla shake with chocolate syrup.

Biden also appears to have ordered food at the restaurant, walking away from the window with a bag in hand, though it’s unclear if he went with the famed, holy grail Cook Out Tray. (We’d understand if he didn’t order a Tray. It can be a complicated process for newcomers.)

“While at @CookOut, @POTUS ordered a bacon cheeseburger, french fries, and a ‘Black & White’ milkshake,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates tweeted, citing a pool report.

Cooper told reporters that Biden bought him a milkshake, as well, and the governor also seems to have offered the president some sage Cook Out advice.

After ordering, Biden walked back to the order window to ask for a spoon.

“You’ll need that,” Cooper said.
