The Presidential Debate Was Predictably Dystopian, But the Memes Are Good!

Last night's presidential debate was as chaotic as you’d expect. Donald Trump and Kamala Harris met for the first time. They even shook hands! About 10 minutes later, things went off the rails. ABC moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis did their best to keep the event running smoothly, but that’s hard to do when one candidate wants to talk about the issues and the other, well, doesn’t.

Both Trump and Harris fielded questions about abortion rights, fracking, gun laws, the economy, and immigration, which led to some strange (and hilarious) soundbites. We can always count on Trump to say something ridiculous, but I don’t think anyone expected this level of shit-show. According to the former president, immigrants are eating people's pets, doctors are killing babies after birth, and our tax dollars are going toward “illegal aliens” in jail who want gender-affirming care. Who knew?!

It almost feels too ridiculous to type, but hey, that’s what the man said. On the bright side, this is the first and likely last debate we’ll see between Trump and Harris—which means we’ll be spared from more nonsensical vitriol.

Thankfully, Americans have a great sense of humor. As the debate unfolded, viewers posted their live reactions on Twitter, and they did not hold back. Below, we’ve rounded up the funniest takes of the night. Hopefully, we can all have a laugh and try to forget that the election is imminent. If that debate was any indication of how the next two months will go, we’ll need all the giggles we can get.
