Pride Month and beyond: Bucks County resources focused on supporting the LGBTQ+ community

Pride Month has officially kicked off and while it marks a time of celebration, it also serves as a reminder of the historic and continued adversity and discrimination faced by those in the LGBTQ+ community in their fight for equal rights.

Support and resources for LGBTQ+ youth, adults, families and allies are offered in the Bucks County area, statewide and nationally.

So, for those who are struggling, feeling lost and alone or in need of a safe space, we’ve compiled a list of local and national LGBTQ+ supportive resources:

Planned Parenthood Keystone’s Rainbow Room

The Rainbow Room is a youth center in Bucks County for LGBTQ+ youth and allies ages 14 to 21. They have two centers in Langhorne and Doylestown.

Roy G. Biv

Roy G. Biv is an LGBTQ+ youth and allies program designed for ages 10 to 14.

NAMI Bucks County

NAMI Bucks County offers monthly support groups for LGBTQ adults and a separate one for LGBTQ youth ages 14-21. Both groups are designed to provide a safe, affirming and confidential space for individuals to speak openly about their mental health and LGBTQ matters.

Bucks LGBTQ Center

Bucks LGBTQ Center, with locations in Buckingham and Newtown, offers clinical support, community events and educational resources on topics related to gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation for individuals and family members.

PFLAG Bucks County

PFLAG is a support group for parents, family members, friends and individuals who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered. They meet twice monthly, both virtually and in-person.

The Welcome Project PA’s Sexuality and Gender Acceptance Community Center

Located in Hatboro, the SAGA Community Center “strives to be a ‘safe and brave space’ for all LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies by providing community building, support, activities, education, and advocacy for the local community.” SAGA offers several support groups for LGBTQ+ adults, youth and families, as well as family-friendly activity nights and socials.

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Gender and Sexuality Development Program

The program offers psychosocial and medical support for gender nonconforming, gender expansive and transgender children and youth up to age 21 and their families.
