In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, director Tim Burton ushers viewers back to the fictional Vermont village of Winter River for a much anticipated follow-up to his creepy 1988 comedy. Key members of the original cast returned for the sequel—and Burton couldn't film them anywhere but the original locations. “We had to go back to the real place and do it for real, because nothing else was really going to cut it,” production designer Mark Scruton said in a press brief. He added, “We didn’t try to change any of the aesthetic or push it in different directions. We just wanted to expand the world that had already been created.”

The team recreated everything as faithfully as they could in Vermont, Massachusetts, and in the United Kingdom. Find out everything we know about the locations—many of which fans can visit—below.

While the majority of filming took place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden (where the Harry Potter franchise and other blockbusters have been shot), the production also tapped real locations in both the United States and the U.K. The cast and crew revisited the East Corinth section of Corinth, Vermont, to once again transform the area into the state’s fictional Winter River. They spent three days filming in East Corinth and two days in Massachusetts. These areas were used for the location of the Deetz house and building a covered bridge to mimic the original, as well as the store, the schoolhouse, and the streets where Jenna Ortega's character, Astrid, bikes, and the home of Jeremy (played by Jeremy Conti).

The iconic Deetz house was rebuilt on the exact same hilltop spot in East Corinth where it first stood in the 1988 movie. For the sequel, Scruton and his team built the house as a shell with only two finished sides, unearthing drawings and models of the property from the Warner Bros. archives to resurrect it. They also referenced photos discovered on Flickr that were taken during the production of the original film, according to a press brief. Another fun tidbit: The East Corinth building that portrays Miss Shannon’s Home for Girls is also seen in the sequel and has changed little since the original movie. It was purchased by fans who plan to renovate it into a tourist attraction and event space.

Other locations in the U.K. were used for filming, including a gallery in London’s SoHo that depicts the gallery in New York's SoHo where Delia (Catherine O'Hara)’s art show is mounted. The production also used a decommissioned boarding school built in 1820 for Astrid’s school and a country estate for the Winter River church exterior and cemetery. While the original movie never featured any U.K. locations, those chosen for the sequel fit nicely into Burton's eerie world.
