Puggle's Hilarious Way of Asking to Come Inside Is Truly One in a Million

It's no surprise that many dogs put on quite a show when they spot a bite of food. My rescue poodle mix looks at me like he's never eaten before in his entire life, and I can almost hear the sad Sarah McLaughlin music playing in my head. He almost always convinces me to give him a bite! Every other dog owner I've met has experienced the same thing, though some pups are much more desperate for food than others.

Labrador Retrievers are known as some of the hungriest, most food-motivated dogs out there, and veterinarians have even found a reason why (more on that later). One social media superstar--Frank the puppy--both looks and acts like a Lab when his family is eating, but it turns out that this hungry guy is actually a Puggle! He made everyone laugh with his dinnertime antics on September 15, and now he has over a million views to prove it. Take a look!

LOL! Frank was thinking so deeply about eating his dad's pizza crust that he started licking the glass door instead. Nothing exists in his mind except himself and the thought of food, and he has no idea that his family is filming him. It's safe to say they were equally as surprised to get both dinner and a show, though it will be difficult not to expect these silly antics in the future. Luckily, videos can last forever!

As silly as this young puppy is being, I'm not the only one who finds his dedication praiseworthy. If he couldn't get his paws on the pizza crust, he could at least pretend to crunch on it! Commenter @distorted_grace was in awe of "the noise his teeth actually make as he's chomping" on the screen door. "He almost got a bite of that glass." This Beagle mix really doesn't quit!

Why Are Some Dogs Hungrier Than Others?

Not every dog in the world is motivated by food, but many of those who are become positively ravenous. Many factors affect a dog's appetite and metabolism, including size, age, and breed, and it's not always obvious which dogs will be the hungriest.

Large dogs and muscular dogs tend to burn more calories than small, leaner dogs do. Working dogs will also need more food to sustain their busy lives, but veterinarians found a genetic mutation that makes two dog breeds particularly susceptible to hunger.

Labrador Retrievers and Flat-Coated Retrievers can develop a genetic mutation before birth that causes them to burn more calories at rest. It also stops the brain from processing signals from the stomach that it is full, so affected dogs tend to feel hungry all the time. Frank isn't affected by this gene since he's not actually a Black Lab puppy, but there's no doubt that he and his famished friends are on the same page.
