The Rainmaker Casts Recent Doctor Who Guest Star in Matt Damon Role

The Rainmaker has found the actor to fill Matt Damon’s shoes.

Milo Callaghan, who guest-starred on Doctor Who‘s very recent “Dot & Bubble” episode, will play the lead role in USA Network’s upcoming adaptation of the bestselling John Grisham novel, our sister site Variety reports.

Callaghan will star as recent law school grad Rudy Baylor, who “goes head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond as well as his law school girlfriend” as he works with a disheveled paralegal to “uncover two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son.” Damon played Rudy in the 1997 film version.

USA Network handed The Rainmaker a series order in June, with Michael Seitzman (Code Black) and Jason Richman (Stumptown) co-writing the pilot and serving as executive producers. Mad Men alum John Slattery has signed on to play Rudy’s courtroom adversary Leo Drummond, played by Jon Voight in the film, with Madison Iseman (I Know What You Did Last Summer) as Rudy’s girlfriend Sarah. The role of the paralegal, played by Danny DeVito in the film, has not yet been cast.

Callaghan is a relative newcomer, with appearances on Doctor Who, FBI: International and The Spanish Princess under his belt so far. He’s next set to co-star with David Tennant and Aidan Turner in the upcoming Hulu miniseries Rivals.
