Rally together for Trump's full recovery then go to polls to vote for Tennessee Democrats

On July 13th, shots were fired at former President Donald Trump. Thankfully, his injuries were light.

The Rutherford County Democratic Party hopes that former President Trump has a speedy recovery and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

We know that former President Trump and all people take this very traumatic event seriously. We hope that this helps us see this as an opportunity for us to change gun laws and make America safe again.

We used to be able to rally together on important issues. In the last few years, Americans have been stuck in fight or flight mode. Every day we are forced to ask ourselves if our families are safe, if our schools are safe, if our jobs are safe, if our houses are safe and now if our democracy is safe?

After asking these questions on a daily basis, a few of us decided we needed something different in Rutherford County. We are weary of feeling unheard and uncared for. We are weary of not being able to afford housing in the county that we grew up in. We are weary of not getting the resources our county desperately needs. We are definitely annoyed that our representatives are not representing all of us in Rutherford County.

Democrat contenders have stood up to book bans

Thankfully, in Rutherford County we have candidates that are willing to help make the changes we need. These are everyday people who already have other responsibilities, but like soldiers, they step up to the political front lines and defend people they have never met and who may never thank them. They make sacrifices others are not willing to make and expect nothing in return.

Tiffany Fee, running for School Board Zone 3 has been a strong ally to the LGBTQIA+ community as well as standing up for banned books. She has gone out of her way to stand up for students, teachers and librarians.

Kelly Northcutt, running for Murfreesboro City Council, has called out our council for passing a decency ordinance that is constitutionally wrong.

Amelia Pant running for state House representative in District 34 knows what it is like to be a young mother worried about raising her child and keeping her safe.

Johnathan Yancey, running for state House representative in District 13 knows what it means to work in our education system and he is as committed to seeing that his community is thriving as he is to his students and their well-being.

Cheri Brown, running for state House representative District 37, is a mom who has worked hard to take care of her disabled daughter and keep a roof over their heads — she will fight for affordable housing and expansion of Medicaid.

Candidates for office seek grow diversity of representation

Citizens who have grown up in Rutherford County want to know that our leaders can anticipate our needs as a growing county.

Matt Ferry, running for state House representative in District 48, also grew up in Rutherford County. He knows what this county is capable of and he has taken the time to learn the needs of the county.

As our county becomes more diverse, that diversity needs to be reflected in our legislature. Luis Mata, an immigrant and now U.S. citizen, running for state House District 49, has a special passion for making sure all voices are heard. He has gone above and beyond to make sure immigrants have a true opportunity to get the resources they need. He will carry this passion over to make sure Rutherford County has the resources it needs.
