Readers Choice Polls: Who won Spring Sports Athlete of the Year honors for boys and girls?

MARION — The readers have decided.

In the inaugural Readers Choice Marion Star Spring Sports Athletes of the Year Polls, two track athletes earned their victories.

In the girls poll that drew 2,117 votes, Highland senior Camryn Miller, who competed at the Division II state meet in the 3200 meters, picked up 856 votes for 40%. Second-place went to Elgin track's Julia Kuba with 501 votes for 24% while third-place had River Valley track's Eva Moran with 451 votes for 21%.

Other girls nominees were North Union track's Gabby Lindsey, Northmor softball's Madison Simpson, Cardington softball's Genevieve Longsdorf, Ridgedale softball's Kenzie Delaney and River Valley softball's Lanie Wooten.

The boys poll saw 664 votes with River Valley senior Ethan Lyon, an All-Ohioan in the Division II boys shot put and discus at the state meet, getting 363 votes at 55% to win it. Finishing second was Mount Gilead track's Parker Bartlett with 81 votes for 12%, while Highland baseball's Hayden Kline was third with 73 votes for 11%.

Other boys nominees were River Valley track's Cooper Miller, Northmor baseball's Grant Bentley, Mount Gilead track's Will Baker, Northmor track's Cowin Becker and Marion Harding's tennis doubles team of Alexander and Sebastian Lisiecki.
