Rescued Piglet’s First Zoomie Is Making Everybody Smile

Located in Providence, North Carolina, Ziggy's Refuge is a non-profit animal sanctuary where rescued animals can live safe and peaceful lives. In mid-August, they rescued a tiny underweight piglet near death from a backyard breeder. They named her Blossom, but they weren't sure that she would make it. They chose to fight for her life, and it paid off.

Ziggy's shared an update video on Monday, September 2nd announcing that the piglet had gained nearly a pound and was strong enough to start exploring her new home. While recording the video of her checking out her new digs, they captured Blossom doing her first zoomie. It doesn't last very long and she kind of stumbles through it, but the whole thing is such a joy to see!

Ziggy's explains in their caption that Blossom was also suffering from underdeveloped lungs and pneumonia, but thanks to her vet and supporters sending gifts from her Amazon wish list, she's getting the medical care and supplies that she needs. She is beating the odds and is on the road to recovery. She's definitely a fighter who has a lot of fans cheering her on!

Commenters had a lot to say about Blossom and her new family at Ziggy's Refuge. @Brandy Keens-Natt said simply, "Love is the best medicine!" @Aggressive Boomer shared, "Oh my gosh, there is nothing in the world sweeter than this! Thank God for people like you!" And I couldn't agree more with the commenter who said, "Can't wait to follow her journey!"

Do Pigs Make Good Pets?

After watching this video, you might be considering bringing home a new pet piglet, I know I was! This one is adorable and if I lived closer, I'd offer to adopt her...or would I? I did some quick research to see if pigs make good pets and was surprised to learn that they do.

People who have pet pigs say that they're a lot like dogs; they are extremely intelligent, social, love to cuddle, get along well with other animals, and, like Blossom, are entertaining to have around. Who wouldn't want to watch a piglet do zoomies all day?! Like dogs, pigs get the zoomies sometimes. They do this when they are happy, to express emotions, and even if they're feeling stressed or anxious. In Blossom's case, I think that she was excited about the new life ahead of her!

Pigs are hypoallergenic, which means that you don't have to worry about them if you have allergies. Although they get a bad rap for being dirty, pet pigs are actually very clean animals and with regular baths, they aren't stinky. You might be wondering if pigs can be potty trained, and the answer is yes. You can train them to use a litter box, and they learn to do very quickly.

Pigs like to roam and have room to play and run, so you'll need to have some open space for them. They also need somewhere to root; a natural behavior that all pigs do to look for food, to cool off, and even as a source of comfort. Unless you want them rooting in your carpet, they'll need someplace to do it outside.

A pet pig isn't ideal for everybody, so do your research to learn all about them to see if their needs meet your family's lifestyle to avoid being unhappy with your new pet (and them with you!)
