These RI stores have everything you need to feel like a professional chef in your own home

Any Betty Crocker or Sandra Lee can buy a sheet pan from the grocery store, mix up some premade box cake and serve it at their 7-year-old son’s pool party, but not you. You’re a foodie. You’ve watched countless hours of Food Network, you’ve combed through the New York Times’ and Bon Appetit’s recipe catalogs. Of course, you know what a sous vide is. Perhaps you even have one sitting next to your Graza Olive Oil squeeze bottle.

The bottom line is that you’re ready for more. You’re ready to go pro.

Thankfully, there are several places you can grab unique kitchen equipment, tools, cookbooks and other instruments of culinary artistry that can help you level up your cooking from amateur home cook to self-taught master who also cooks from home.

Stock Culinary Goods

Stock carries the upscale, unique kind of home goods and kitchen supplies that food influencers show off on their Instagram. One of the main draws is their selection of local goods from across Rhode Island, such as Newport Sea Salt jars, Gotham Greens Chimichurri and a bottle opener in the shape of a horseshoe crab.

For lovers of niche supplies, Stock is a goldmine of interesting finds. Try your hand at making your own fermented hot sauce, or make a bundt cake shaped like an octopus. The shop also sells gourmet groceries, linens, dishware, knives, cutting boards and even a nutcracker in the shape of a tiny wooden mushroom. The world is your oyster knife, which they also sell. Need that knife sharpened? Drop off your knife at Stock and Sharper Harper will take care of it for $1.50 a blade.

Utility

Think of Utility as Stock’s little sister with a graphic design degree. This bright, colorfully curated cooking supply store in Middletown was started by the owners of its next-door neighbor, Mission Burger, with the hope of marrying the worlds of professional cooking and aesthetic design. The selection is a mix of professional-grade cooking tools used by the Mission team, such as silicon mats and frying pans, and funky little gadgets and accessories, including an aesthetic blue glass French press and curvy wooden serving spoons.

Like Stock, Utility’s product range is wide, including cookbooks, linens, glassware, mocktails, chili oil, and its own coffee blend.

The flagship store of Overseasoned, Matriarch is at 468 Thames St., Newport.

While Matriarch does not necessarily sell kitchen supplies other than a small selection of pantry goods, it does have a substantial range of modern, trendy cookbooks. The shop itself, and the larger Overseasoned brand for which it is the flagship store, is dedicated to food and cooking, with unique gifts for the foodie in your life, including yourself. Perhaps browsing among the shops offerings, like this candle in the shape of bowtie pasta or this bumper sticker announcing your passion for baking might inspire your next culinary creation.

Restaurant City Providence

Restaurant City Providence is a massive warehouse just off Route 10 that, as the name suggests, sells professional cooking equipment for the restaurant industry. It is one of a chain of restaurant supply stores with sister locations in Connecticut, New Jersey and Florida.

They have a wide selection of commercial equipment you might not have even considered, such as bubble waffle irons and electric hot dog steamers, but if those are a bit avant-garde for your tastes, they also have professional-grade cooking equipment and accessories home cooks can use, like stainless steel pots and pans, serving dishes, kitchen utensils, vegetable slicers and everything in between.

Of course, no one will stop you from buying a commercial frozen cocktail dispenser for your home kitchen if that’s what you want.

Restaurant Superstore

Like the previous entry in this list, this small commercial restaurant supply chain has a location in Providence that is open to the public. Unlike Restaurant City, however, this shop has a greater focus on food. Grab yourself a literal tub of Italian dressing, or perhaps a bucket of buttercream icing. Most products are in bulk, including the spices, and freezers are full of meat, dairy and produce in large quantities.

Want to impress your guests at your next pool party? Restaurant Superstore has an entire section dedicated to ice cream supplies that can empower you to build the top-of-the-line ice cream bar of your dreams, from cones to sprinkles.

Wickford Gourmet Factory Outlet

This little discount outlet on the edge of Wickford Village does not have a large online presence, but the store itself is a treasure trove of kitchen supplies, especially when it comes to dinnerware and cookware. Visitors who ascend up the wooden staircase to the second floor can expect stacks upon stacks of discounted plates, bowls, wine glasses, cups and other various food receptacles ready for the next time you want to fill up your cabinets.
