Roller coaster fans sound off on social media about Top Thrill 2 being closed for the year
"When you order your coaster from Temu."
Roller coaster fans have been sounding off on social media all weekend after Cedar Point announced on Friday that Top Thrill 2 will not reopen this year. Most aren't surprised by the news, given that the coaster, a reimagining of the original Top Thrill Dragster by manufacturer Zamperla, was only in operation a few days after it originally debuted in May.
What's the latest update on Top Thrill 2?
Cedar Point closed Top Thrill 2 after it was in operation only eight days so that Zamperla could modify the coaster's vehicles. According to the update posted Aug. 23 by Cedar Point, Zamperla isn't able to complete those modifications in time for the coaster to reopen this season.
"We are extremely disappointed that we cannot open the ride this season but remain committed to delivering a reliable, consistent and unparalleled coaster experience for our guests in 2025," the statement reads.
What are people saying on social media about Top Thrill 2 not reopening?
Here's a sampling of what people are saying on social media:
Facebook user Bryce Kisak calls Top Thrill 2 and the Steel Curtain coaster at Kennywood near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, "lawn ornaments." Steel Curtain is closed this year for extensive modifications, according to media reports.

In the Cedar Point Nation Group on Facebook, Dee Snead jokes that the coaster will be in the HalloWeekends graveyard this year.
Over on Reddit, user twinflxwer sees a Spirit Halloween -- which opens in abandoned storefronts in the fall -- in Top Thrill 2's future.

You market TT2 all season. Market Season Long Fast Lane for TT2. And we got nothing. This will go down in history. @cedarpoint@TonyClarkCP@zamperlarides#TT2#CedarPoint
