Romesh Ranganathan is set to host a brand new celebrity game show for ITV.

The comedian will front Romesh Ranganathan's Parents' Evening, which will see a group of famous faces team up with their family to find out how well parents know their children.

"Packed full of huge laughs and enormous embarrassment, the contestants' fortunes lie in the hands of those supposed to know them the best... their parents," reads the official logline for the show.

Three celebrities will compete each week to win money for their chosen charity.

The celebrities taking part include This Morning's Alison Hammond and her son Aidan, I'm a Celebrity's Tony Bellew and his son Corey, plus The Masked Singer's Joel Dommett and his mum Penny.

The cast also features Spice Girls star Mel B and her daughter Phoenix, presenter Jonathan Ross and his daughter Honey, and Countdown's Carol Vorderman and her son Cameron.

Love Island's Iain Stirling and his mum Alison will also appear on the show, as will Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley and his daughter Chloe, and Geordie Shore's Vicky Pattison and her mum Caroll.

In each round, it's up to the parents to work out what their kids know. The grown-up children need to try and answer as many questions correctly – with their parents choosing which questions they face.

If the children meet their parent's expectations, they'll win money, but if they fall short, the cash is split between the two other teams. The family that wins the most cash will then make it to the final round for the chance to double their money for charity.

Ranganathan will also bring his mum Shanthi along to help oversee proceedings and the team scores, as well as "keeping him in check".

"I am really grateful ITV has given me the chance to host this brand new series. I am less grateful they also gave the chance to my mother," Ranganathan said.

Katie Rawcliffe, ITV's head of entertainment commissioning, added: "In this brand new celebrity game show packed full of laughter and embarrassing revelations, we will see how much these famous parents and kids really know each other.

"With Romesh as host and his mum, Shanthi, keeping him in check too, viewers will be treated to plenty of comedy as well as chances to play along and join in at home."

As well as co-hosting the BAFTA TV Awards alongside Rob Beckett, Ranganathan is also known for leading the relaunch of The Weakest Link.

Romesh Ranganathan's Parents' Evening doesn't have a release date yet.
