Rooney Mara appeared at her fiancéJoaquin Phoenix's latest movie premiere, but the couple did not pose together.

Mara, 39, was seen supporting her longtime partner Phoenix, 49, at the Los Angeles premiere of his new comic book movie Joker: Folie á Deux on Monday, Sept. 30. The couple, who share one son, posed for photos separately on the red carpet outside the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Mara wore an all-black dress to the premiere, while Phoenix was seen wearing a black suit and white shirt as he posed for photos with Lady Gaga, his costar in the movie.

Phoenix and Mara, who rarely appear together in public, originally met on the set of their 2013 movie Her, a film in which they portrayed ex-spouses. Phoenix famously told Vanity Fair in 2019 that he thought Mara did not like him at first, before realizing she was simply shy.

The pair worked together again on the 2018 movies Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot and Mary Magdalene and made their first public appearance as a couple at the closing ceremonies for the Cannes Film Festival in May 2017.

Mara and Phoenix privately got engaged in 2019; the couple sparked engagement rumors in May of that year after Mara was seen wearing a large diamond ring on her left hand.

In September 2020, the couple welcomed their first child, son River, whom they named after Joaquin's late brother River, who died in 1993 at age 23. Mara confirmed River's name when she mentioned her son in a Mother's Day 2021 campaign for Farm Sanctuary, though Russian filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky, who Phoenix worked with on the dialogue-free documentary Gunda, confirmed the child's name during an appearance at the 2020 Zurich Film Festival.

While the couple typically remain private about their life together, Mara previously spoke to how she approaches balancing work and life as a parent while she appeared on Joaquin's sister Rain Phoenix's LaunchLeft podcast in January 2023. "I was able to get advice from Claire [Foy] and Sheila [McCarthy] and Judith [Ivey] and all these moms that I was working with," she said of her movie Women Talking at the time. "And River was there on set all the time, in the green room. It was a very idyllic situation, it probably won't happen like that again."

Joker: Folie á Deux is in theaters Oct. 4.
